We are piloting our volunteer-run Safe Walk program! Tonight, Friday night, and Saturday night from 8:00pm to 3:00am. There are a few ways to arrange a walk:
(1) Ahead of Time: You can call ahead of time (347-709-8852) to let us know when/where to pick you up (for example, meeting you at a subway station when you return from another neighborhood). We cannot accept calls before 7:00pm. Please make sure you speak to our dispatcher to confirm your pick-up;
(2) ASAP: You can call us (347-709-8852) if you are already in the area and you want a walk home ASAP. For example, we can come meet you at a friend’s house/restaurant/bar/etc. or you can call from a subway station and we will direct you to a safe, well-lit public place where we will meet you;
(3) If You See a Safe Walk Volunteer: When possible, our volunteers will be providing direct outreach at subway stations or while we’re walking in the area. If you see us, we can walk you home. Please note: It is important to be extra careful about requesting a Safe Walk on the street or at the subway. Please remember that Safe Walk volunteers work in pairs. If you want to confirm that a pair of volunteers are from Safe Slope, please feel free to call our dispatcher (347-709-8852).
For more information, please see: http://safeslope.org/programs
Please remember that Safe Walk is available for women- and LGBTQ-identified people only. At this time, we can only travel between 9th St and 30th St/3rd Ave and 8th Ave.
We will try to accommodate as many people as possible, but this is an initial pilot. Our next step is to recruit more volunteers so we can reach more people! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please visit: http://safeslope.org/volunteers
Please feel free to email us at safeslope@gmail.com if you have any questions.
