Thank you!

We feel both excited and hopeful that so many folks came out to join us for our Take Back the Streets rally.  If you were there, thank you for coming!  If you weren’t there, thank you for visiting us here!   The safety of our community (and other communities) is so important to us, and it was great to see so many people care about this cause.

Many people expressed interest in getting involved with our programs, so we want to provide information on how to get involved in both Safe Slope programs and other community programs you heard about at the rally.

Safe Slope’s Initiatives:

Safe Walk
Safe Slope’s Safe Walk initiative is a volunteer-based program providing free walks home to female- and LGBTQ-identified community members. You can read more about the Safe Walk here.

Safe Space
Safe Slope’s Safe Space initiative partners with local establishments (e.g., bodegas, delis, restaurants, churches, etc.) willing to create and maintain a space for community members to briefly retreat to at night to feel safe. Safe Space locations are open at night and post our Safe Space decal on their front door or window, welcoming community members inside to do what they need to do to feel safe.  You can read more about the Safe Space program at here.  If you are an establishment in our community with late hours, we encourage you to participate.  Please contact us!

Volunteering for Safe Slope:
We have two programs—Safe Walk and Safe Space—that we are launching and need volunteers for.  Safe Slope formed one month ago, and both Safe Walk and Safe Space are graduating from the planning stages to implementation in late September/early October.  At that time, we will be holding volunteer training for anyone who has expressed interest in volunteering.  Safe Slope will provide an overview of volunteer roles and how the programs work so you can help keep our streets safe with Safe Slope.

Please visit our Programs page to learn more about our programs.  If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact us!
